The tech has evolved, and although it can still be used to send and receive files between phones, it’s a bit slow compared to other wireless technologies available to do the same. Bluetooth emerged as a novelty in feature phones in the early 2000s and became one of the quickest and most convenient ways - trumping infrared by a long shot - to transfer files between phones, even after smartphones were introduced.
